Student Buddy Program
Starting a new academic journey can be both exciting and challenging, especially when you come from abroad. To help you navigate this transition smoothly, we are introducing the Buddy Programme, a support system designed specifically for new students at GERAD.
What is the Buddy Program?
The Buddy Program pairs each new student with an experienced student (your “buddy”) from your department or who speaks the same language as you or who has been at GERAD for some time. Your buddy can answer questions and guide you through both academic and campus life.
Benefits of the Program?
- Get guidance from someone who’s been there: Your buddy can share tips on course registration, managing workload, and accessing university resources.
- Build connections: Make friends early and expand your network within your program.
- Feel supported: Adjusting to a new environment is easier when you have someone to reach out to for advice and encouragement.
- Participate in activities: Buddies can guide you in participating in social events to help you feel integrated into the community.
How it works:
- Introduction: Write to the buddy (or to the buddies) of your choice to introduce yourself and ask them any questions you may have.
- Regular (or irregular) check-ins: You can schedule meetings or casual chats to discuss academics, campus life, or any concerns.
Remember, your buddy is here to help, not to solve everything for you. The program works best when you actively engage and communicate. It’s a great opportunity to learn, grow, and make the most of your GERAD experience.

Melad Fahed “I decided to join the Buddy Programme because I have been through the transition myself and I know how it feels to be new in a place. Having someone to reach out to makes things much easier and I would like to do the same for others.,,I spend a lot of time outdoors on the mountains, but I also enjoy discovering new food spots and experiences around town.” |
Prakash Gawas “When I was new, I benefited a lot from such a program and it really helped me settle in. I felt it was my turn to contribute and support others in the same way. I enjoy meeting new people, whether through research, sports, or just exploring Montreal, and I’m always up for a good conversation. I also bring five years of experience and perspective that I’d be happy to share.” |
Venkat Akhil Ankem “I was a new student before and I felt the loneliness when a new student in a new environment would feel. I just want to help out to the students to show them around and be there to ease their experience in a new place. ,,I love new things and exploring new places to eat and hangout. Would also love to learn about new cultures and hopefully improve my French” |
Welcome aboard!
