On April 5th, Ibrahim Chamseddine won the 2018 GERAD Best Thesis Competition for his thesis titled "Utilizing computational design optimization in cancer nanotherapy and biology system principles in air transportation: A successful demonstration of interdisciplinary research". He was supervised by Michael Kokkolaras at McGill University.

Gilbert Laporte, Full Professor at HEC Montréal, is now a foreign members of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).
Election to the NAE is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer.

Pierre L'Ecuyer received the Outstanding Simulation Publication Award during the 2018 Winter Simulation Conference that took place at Gothenburg, Sweden, in December 2018.
The selection committee gave this award to Boris N. Oreshkin, Nazim Réegnard, and Pierre L’Ecuyer for their paper: Rate-Based Daily Arrival Process Models with Application to Call Centers, Operations Research 64 (2) 510–527, 2016.

Full Professor Gilbert Laporte has been made a member of the Order of Canada, in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of decision science and the development of new methods in operational research. This is one of our country's highest civilian honours.
The announcement was made on December 27 by Governor General Julie Payette. Professor Laporte will be invited to receive his insignia at a ceremony on a later date. "Created in 1967, the Order honours people whose service shapes our society; whose innovations ignite our imaginations; and whose compassion unites our communities," explains the press release issued to announce the new appointments. "Close to 7,000 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order."
