Maximilian Schiffer, an associate member of GERAD, received the best doctoral thesis award from the German Operations Research Society (GOR). His thesis entitled "Logistics Networks with Intermediate Stops, Innovative Design and Green Solutions", was defended in August 2017 at RWTH Aachen. It was directed by Michael Schneider and Gilbert Laporte.
Two students of Polytechnique Montréal, Alexis Montoison (supervised by Dominique Orban) and Pierre-Yves Bouchet (supervised by Charles Audet), won the first prize in the individual category at the 9th Competitive Mathematical Game. These games, organized by the French Federation of Mathematical Games (FFJM) and the Society of Mathematical Calculation SA (SCM), are to solve a social problem.
Georges Zaccour, Full Professor at HEC Montréal, will be a plenary speaker at the World Conference on Natural Resource Modeling (WCNRM) that will take place from June 9 to 13 at Guangzhou, China.

Professor James Forbes was recently named as a William Dawson Scholar. Professor Forbes joins a select group of early-career professors at McGill University who have demonstrated particular promise. More specifically, "The William Dawson Scholar award recognizes a scholar developing into an outstanding and original researcher of world-class caliber who is poised to become a leader in his or her field, similar to that of a CRC Tier II chair holder."

On May 7th, Charles Gauvin won the 2017 GERAD Best Thesis Competition for his thesis titled "Méthodes d'optimisation robuste pour le problème de gestion de réservoirs". He was supervised by Michel Gendreau from Polytechnique Montréal and Erick Delage from HEC Montréal.
