Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, invested Gilbert Laporte, Full Professor at HEC Montréal, into the Order of Canada during a ceremony at Rideau Hall, on November 21, 2019.
An article co-authored by Professors Okan Arslan, Ola Jabali and Gilbert Laporte received an honourable mention in the awarding of the Best Paper of the Year Award by the international association INFORMS Transportation Science and Logistics (TSL).
The article ranked close second among the 26 submissions received this year at the INFORMS annual meeting for the Transportation Science and Logistics category.
This study, titled Exact Solution of the Evasive Flow Capturing Problem presents an innovative solution to a complex problem of intercepting illegal vehicles in a transportation network. It was first published in November 2018 in the journal Operations Research, which is part of the Financial Times list (FT50) of the 50 scientific journals with the most impact in the business sector.

Professor Gilbert Laporte was among the winners of this year's Best Paper Awards recently presented by the Humanitarian Operations and Crisis Management College of the Production & Operations Management Society (POMS).
Their paper, entitled "Collaborative Prepositioning Network Design for Regional Disaster Response", was co-authored with Professor Marie-Ève Rancourt of HEC Montréal, Professor Burçu Balcik of Ozyegin University, in Turkey, and IVADO postdoctoral researcher Selene Silvestri.
The paper will be published shortly in Production and Operations Management, a scientific journal on the Financial Times list.
Gilbert Laporte is one of the world’s most productive and influential authors in the fields of computer science and electronics, according to the Top 1000 Scientists 2019 ranking.
Gilbert Laporte, Full Professor at HEC Montréal, is now a foreign members of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).
Election to the NAE is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer.

Full Professor Gilbert Laporte has been made a member of the Order of Canada, in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of decision science and the development of new methods in operational research. This is one of our country's highest civilian honours.
The announcement was made on December 27 by Governor General Julie Payette. Professor Laporte will be invited to receive his insignia at a ceremony on a later date. "Created in 1967, the Order honours people whose service shapes our society; whose innovations ignite our imaginations; and whose compassion unites our communities," explains the press release issued to announce the new appointments. "Close to 7,000 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order."
Gilbert Laporte received the 2018 Marie-Victorin Award. The 2018 Quebec Awards ceremony was held on November 21 at the Parliament Building.
Maximilian Schiffer, an associate member of GERAD, received the best doctoral thesis award during the 2018 INFORMS Annual Meeting in Phoenix that took place on November 2018. This award is the oldest and most prestigious honor for doctoral dissertations in the transportation science and logistics area. The award includes a plaque and cash prize.
His thesis entitled "Logistics Networks with Intermediate Stops, Innovative Design and Green Solutions", was defended in August 2017 at RWTH Aachen. It was directed by Michael Schneider and Gilbert Laporte.
Full Professor Gilbert Laporte was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Université de Liège, Belgium, in recognition of the quality of his work. The insignia were conferred on behalf of His Majesty the King of the Belgians and of the Government of the French Community in Belgium, during a ceremony in Liège on March 24.
Full Professor Gilbert Laporte has been proclaimed the world’s most productive and influential author in operations research and management science by Omega – The International Journal of Management Science.
His 299 publications and 7,486 citations in specialized journals in these two fields earned him his first place in this ranking drawn up in co-operation with the Web of Science (WoS) database.
The award was presented by Maryse Lassonde, scientific director of the FRQNT, during the FRQNT Journée de la recherche held at École de technologie supérieure.

The Acfas has presented Gilbert Laporte, Full Professor at HEC Montréal, with the Urgel-Archambault award in physics, mathematics, computer science and engineering.
