Maximilian Schiffer, an associate member of GERAD, received the best doctoral thesis award during the 2018 INFORMS Annual Meeting in Phoenix that took place on November 2018. This award is the oldest and most prestigious honor for doctoral dissertations in the transportation science and logistics area. The award includes a plaque and cash prize.
His thesis entitled "Logistics Networks with Intermediate Stops, Innovative Design and Green Solutions", was defended in August 2017 at RWTH Aachen. It was directed by Michael Schneider and Gilbert Laporte.
Full Professor Gilbert Laporte was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Université de Liège, Belgium, in recognition of the quality of his work. The insignia were conferred on behalf of His Majesty the King of the Belgians and of the Government of the French Community in Belgium, during a ceremony in Liège on March 24.
