Results of the OR/MS scientific writing activity

Sara Ahmed

We are proud to announce that the 2020-2021 OR/MS Scientific Writing Activity was a complete success, even in the face of a global pandemic. This year, we received ten final extended abstracts: four in logistics, two in stochastic optimization, two in machine learning, one in electricity, and one in scheduling.

Following a selection by a jury composed of professors, this year’s winners are:

  • First place: A Matheuristic Approach to the Multi-Echelon Location-Routing Problem with Multi-Commodity Pickup-and-Delivery and Courier Shipment, Sara Ahmed
  • Second place ex-aequo: Solving Shop Scheduling Problems by an Exact Branch-and-Bound Algorithm and Neural Network Approach, Salah Eddine Bouterfif
  • Second place ex-aequo: Stochastic Stope Design Optimization under Grade Uncertainty and Dynamic Development Costs, Matheus Faria
  • Honorable mention: Improving Branch-and-Bound using Decision Diagrams and Reinforcement Learning, Augustin Parjadis

Stay tuned for a chance to hear the winners present their work to our community.

We thank everyone that participated in the 2020-2021 OR/MS Scientific Writing Activity and helped made the fourth edition of the activity a success. A special thanks to our sponsors: CIRRELT and GERAD!

We wish you all a great summer,

Marilène, Matthieu, Peyman, Rosemarie and Vinicius
