In this paper, we design a REDD mechanism (Reduction of Emissions from Deforestation and forests Degradation) to help a region in Madagascar manage its tropical forest in a sustainable way. To do so, we use viability theory and devise an algorithm to compute viable solutions. Our results highlight some conditions which are required in order to reach a sustainable policy. These conditions are stated in terms of population growth rate as well as economic and environmental development.
