GERAD Fellowship Competitions

Co-supervised Postdoctoral Fellowship Competition

GERAD offers two fellowships in the amount of $70,000 each (including social benefits).

The fellowships must be used between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025. The winning postdoctoral researcher must also spend at least one year at GERAD.

The application must include:

  • A questionnaire to be completed on our platform, including a description of the proposed research project (maximum length of one page, references may be listed on a second page);
  • Your CV in a free format;
  • Your official doctoral transcripts (specify the grading scale for non-Canadian universities);
  • Two to three letters of recommendation.

The plateform is open to receive applications until January 31st, 2024.

The evaluation committee is formed of researchers from HEC Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal, McGill University and UQAM, who are members of GERAD's Scientific Committee. Candidates are ranked according to the excellence of their applications, using the following criteria:

  • Research contributions (scientific impact, quality of research and funding obtained);
  • Academic excellence and quality of the doctoral thesis;
  • The extent and impact of the experience: activities outside school or university, collaborations, contribution to society, professional experience, service to the scientific community, etc;
  • The relevance of the experience with the proposed project.

Please note that the evaluation committee will not comment on the evaluation carried out.

Scholarships for foreign undergraduate and postgraduate trainees

GERAD offers three of $3,500 each.

Applications are submitted in the form of a letter(s) of support from one (or more) GERAD member(s) accompanied by the applicant's CV and transcript.

The evaluation of applications is based on the following criteria:

  • The academic excellence and research aptitude of the candidate
  • The correspondence of the internship project with the research program of the center and the aspect of collaboration between members

In addition, some preference is given to collaborative projects between members of GERAD.

Completed Competitions

Excellence scholarship for the best doctoral thesis 2023

A prize of $3,000 is awarded to the winner.

The thesis submitted to the competition must have been defended between January 1st and December 31, 2023, and the candidate must have been a GERAD student.

The following documents must accompany the nomination by one or more members:

  • A support letter from the member(s)
  • A letter (maximum 1 page) from the candidate addressing the following points:
    • Scientific contribution and originality
    • Potential impacts in the field of research
    • Economic and social benefits
  • A summary of the thesis (maximum 3 pages)
  • A copy of the thesis
  • A copy of the jury members’ reports
  • he candidate’s CV.

The committee evaluates the applications according to the following criteria:

  • The originality of the thesis
  • The excellence of the research and the results obtained 
  • Impacts and benefits
  • Generated publications.

The plateform is open to receive applications until February 19, 2024.

Research scholarship competition for co-supervised doctoral students

GERAD offers four Doctoral Excellence Fellowships of $10,000 each.

Funds awarded must be spent or committed by March 31, 2024.

The application must be made by the regular GERAD members who supervise the candidate.

Selection is made by taking into consideration the student’s transcript and an equitable distribution over the years among GERAD members. Moreover, it favors first the co-supervision of students by members of different institutions and then, the co-supervision by members of different departments if they are from the same institution. Finally, it favors students at the beginning of their doctoral research program.
