It is with great emotion that we pay tribute to two emblematic figures of scientific research, Pierre Hansen and François Soumis, who recently passed away. Their hard work, passion for innovation and commitment to the advancement of knowledge have left an indelible mark on the field of science, particularly operations research and optimization.

Pierre Hansen, renowned for his major contributions to game theory and the analysis of complex systems, has always inspired colleagues and students with his collaborative spirit and insatiable curiosity. He was director of GERAD from 1996 to 2001. Similarly, François Soumis, a pioneer in the study of algorithms and mathematical models applied to logistics and management, has left a legacy of intellectual rigor and innovation. He was director of GERAD from 1992 to 1996.

Members of GERAD for over 35 years, Pierre and François have actively contributed to the evolution of research and the broadening of horizons in their field. Their expertise and dedication to GERAD have played a fundamental role in the international influence of optimization research.

Their work continues to influence current research and practice, and it is in this spirit of gratitude that we organize this conference in their honor. We invite you to share this tribute with us, to celebrate their achievements and to continue their quest for knowledge and progress.

Pierre and François will never be forgotten. Their memory lives on in all of us, and their influence will endure through the generations of researchers they inspired.
