We propose a new MARKAL formulation called "Social-MARKAL" that embeds both technological and behavioral contributions to the environment. With the help of decision makers, we have been able to build a case study for Nyon (a mid size city located near Geneva, Switzerland). Socio-technological scenarios involve the integration of the consumption behavior and resistance/willingness to change issues.

Forest Conservation and CO2 Emissions: A Viable Approach

The notion od sustainability is tackled from an economic and environmental perspective through two interlinked environmental issues: the state of the world’s forests and the stock of CO2 in the atmosphere. Sustainability is assessed by means of Viability Theory.

Sustanaibility of Dry Forest in Androy: A Viability Approach

This article investigates the dynamical interaction between Tandroy population and their unsustainable activities. These activities generate both biological and socio-economic risks. No-one disputes sustainability; however it involves more fundamental questions about the functions and services provided by forests, and about stakeholders. We utilise viability approach to evaluate the effects of this interlink and also to study sustainability.

Attaining Ambitious Climate Targets Without Imperfect Cooperation: A Study with the ETSAP-TIAM Model

Five climate targets, expressed as maximum atmospheric radiative forcing levels of 2.6, 3.7, and 45.5 Watts/m2, are combined with two contrasted cooperation regimes, to create ten climate scenarios. The ten scenarios are analyzed with the ETSAP-TIAM model, and compared with a single hedging scenario where the targets are randomized.
