10:30 Optimization Models and Methods for Roadway Snow Removal and Disposal Problems
Nathalie Perrier, École Polytechnique de Montréal, Mathématiques et génie industriel, C.P. 6079, succ. Centre-ville, Montréal, Québec, Canada, H3C 3A7
André Langevin, École Polytechnique de Montréal, GERAD et Mathématiques et génie industriel, C.P. 6079, Succ. Centre-ville, Montréal, Québec, Canada, H3C 3A7

Roadway snow removal and disposal operations involve a host of strategic, tactical and operational problems. Those operations include spreading de-icers and abrasives, ploughing snow, loading snow into trucks, and transporting snow to disposal sites. We present a survey of optimization models and methods for roadway snow and ice control problems. We discuss the applied setting in which these problems arise, present mathematical formulations for them, and we survey representative solution algorithms. We also present a new formulation for the combined sector design, disposal site location and snow disposal assignment problem.

10:55 Reverse Logistics: A Literature Review and Critic
Serge Lambert, École Polytechnique de Montréal, Polygistique, C.P. 6079, succ. Centre-ville, Montréal, Québec, Canada, H3C 3A7
Diane Riopel, École Polytechnique de Montréal, GERAD et Mathématiques et génie industriel, C.P. 6079, succ. Centre-ville, Montréal, Québec, Canada, H3C 3A7

What is the role and importance of reverse logistics in the global logistic process? To begin with, different terms and definitions of reverse logistics encountered in the literature will be presented. Then, application fields and major activities of reverse logistics will be discussed. Finally, a critic of reverse logistics will be carried out and some research areas will be described.

11:20 Factory Dealing with Uncertainty: Design Methodology and Robustness Evaluation
Suzanne Marcotte, Université Laval, CENTOR, Québec, Québec, Canada, G1K 7P4
Benoit Montreuil, Université Laval, CENTOR, Québec, Québec, Canada, G1K 7P4

This presentation describes an approach toward designing, evaluating, analyzing and selecting a layout that must evolve under uncertain demand. It describes briefly the metaheuristic used to solve the combinatorial and stochastic problem, and which integrates several classic linear programs. It provides empirical results of experiments on well-known cases and focalizes on holographic layouts to illustrate the key points and provide insights on layout robustness for factory designers.
