Short-Term Power System Scheduling with Wind Power Integration

José F. Restrepo

An important consequence of the randomness and lack of controllability of wind generation is the increase in net load uncertainty (demand minus wind generation) faced by the regulating generating units. In particular, the scheduling of flexible generation capable of balancing the net demand in real time may need to be modified in order to accommodate increasing levels of wind power while maintaining acceptable levels of system security. This presentation focuses on the factors that define the reserve targets in the short, medium and long-term in the presence of wind power.
