Operation and Planning of Power Systems with Significant Wind Generation

Francisco D. Galiana Professeur titulaire, Département de génie électrique et informatique, Université McGill, Canada

This talk presents an overview of issues, either reported or of potential research interest, on the system-wide operation and planning of power systems with significant wind generation. Specifically, we review the challenges to account for wind power intermittence and randomness within traditional models such as short-term economic dispatch, unit commitment, and medium and long-term resource coordination. As well, the impact of wind power on the behaviour of electricity markets will be discussed.
