Peter Edwin Caines elected fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2003

Peter Caines is widely recognized for his contributions to the theory of stochastic system identification, is the coauthor of work on the adaptive control of deterministic and stochastic systems which was recognized as a seminal contribution to control theory in the twentieth century and is the author of a standard text on stochastic systems.

His research on complex systems includes the introduction of controllability based notions of state aggregation and a generalized synchronous product for controlled automata; these ideas have yielded a hierarchical control theory for complex systems and new computational methods for their optimal control.
