Lingxiao Wu received his doctorate from the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in September 2020, where he worked under the supervision of Professor Shuaian Wang. His thesis presents novel solution methods to two important yet long-standing problems in seaborne bulk shipping: i) how to improve the utilization of ships under uncertain demands and ii) how to secure the profitability of a shipping company when voyage costs are uncertain.
Lingxiao has been a postdoctoral researcher at GERAD and HEC Montréal since February 2021, under the supervision of Professors Yossiri Adulyasak and Jean-François Cordeau. His research interests lie in the design and implementation of methods that combine operations research and data analytics for solving problems arising in logistics management and transportation. His current work focuses on a vessel service planning problem faced by seaport operators in an uncertain environment, and he is designing a data-driven solution method that leverages techniques including machine learning, Benders decomposition, and column generation.
