Determining the optimal number of spare parts for major substation equipments

To ensure service continuity, power providers must keep ready enough spare parts for replacing components when failures arise. Failure rates are stochastic and depend on the ageing process of equipments and the replacement strategy. The use of failure scenarios allows a simple and elegant solution to this problem. The approach will be compared to state-of-the-art models in the field and some extensions will be discussed.
