LaTeX basics

The basic elements to write text (especially a thesis) in LaTeX are presented. This includes the basic components of a .tex file, how to create the structure of a document, how to insert pictures, tables, cross references, etc. We specifically emphasize the insertion of mathematical formulae. A brief introduction to macros (that increase writing process efficiency) is also provided.

For the attendees who want to experiment with LaTeX during the seminar some software is required. If you don't have a LaTeX environment installed on your laptop, you can install :

A LaTeX Compilation kit for windows users : basic MikteX system (
for Mac users : MacTex ( for Linux users : texlive (available through the package installer)
