Traffic management in "all optical" networks

Gérard Hébuterne Institut National des Télécommunications, France

All optical technologies are considered as a way to meet the continuously increasing demand for bandwidth. These technologies allow to deploy architectures offering several terabit/s or more -- at the price of a deep change in traffic control mechanisms.

In this talk we present the major issues related with traffic management in these networks, and we survey some of our proposed solutions: how to manage quality of service in bufferless networks; how to ensure the maximum efficiency of the transport mechanism in presence of strong discrepancies between the different parts of the network (access, core); which evolution, for the network architectures?
