The quantum nature of the physical systems must be taken into account in designing experiments and devices on the microscopic scale. I will first review the main features of a quantum dynamical model and their role in control problems. The unavoidable stochastic character of quantum measurement processes will be highlighted by considering the design of a feedback control strategy. I will then illustrate the possibilities of information feedback in two different problems and settings: The decoupling of a system by its environment using a discrete time feedback strategy and the stabilization of a desired state by means of continuous time feedback.


Francesco Ticozzi is currently a visiting scholar at the Physics and Astronomy Department of Dartmouth College. He received his Laurea Degree in Industrial Engineering in 2003 from the University of Padova, where he is now a PhD student in Automatic Control and Operations Research. His research interests are in the area of modeling and control of quantum systems, focusing on robustness issues, quantum measurements and feedback control.
