Coming to Porto

By plane:

Porto International Airport - Aeroporto Francisco Sá Carneiro (airport code: OPO) (recommended)
There are taxi, Metro and bus connections between the airport and the centre of the city of Porto.

By taxi (or similar service): The average cost of a trip to the city centre is approximately 25 euros and takes approximately 20/25 minutes.

By Metro: There is a good Metro connection from the airport to the city center. Information can be found on the Metro web page (some info about tickets is provided below). The closest Metro station to the conference venue is Polo Universitário Metro Station (6 minute walk to the conference venue). Notice that going to the conference venue from the airport by metro requires a change of line in the main hub Trindade Metro Station.

Other options:
Lisbon International Airport - Aeroporto Humberto Delgado (airport code: LIS) (300km approximately from Porto)
There are several train and bus options from Lisbon to Porto (travel time: 3 hours approximately).

By train:

Regular trains from Lisbon (travel time: 3 hours approximately).
See ticket and schedule information in https://www.cp.pt/passageiros/pt
The trains from Lisbon arrive at the main train station Porto (Campanhã).

From this station there is a railway connection to the Porto - São Bento Railway station in the city centre, as well as Metro, bus or taxi connections to the city centre and the conference venue and hotels.

By Metro: Campanha Metro station is adjacent to the railway station. Again notice that going by metro to the conference venue from Campanhã requires a change of line in the main hub Trindade Metro Station.

By bus:

Regular buses from Lisbon (travel time: 3 hours approximately) (Rede Expressos; FlixBus).

By car:

From South (Lisbon): A1 Highway
From North (Galicia, Spain): A28 or A3 highways
From East: A25 highway followed by A1 (north direction)

Tickets for the metro and buses

Ticketing for public transportation (Metro and buses) is mainly managed through rechargeable Andante travel cards, although tickets may be purchased from bus drivers. The Andante travel cards allow you to top them up and are available for purchase at any Metro station in the city (e.g. upon arrival at the Airport Metro station, or Campanha Metro station for those arriving by train). Credit can be added to an Andante travel card, allowing it to be used for additional journeys. It must be validated each time, even when transferring, by swiping on the yellow machines at the entrance to the Metro stations or inside the buses. Each trip normally allows you to transfer between buses and Metro line and gives you a minimum of 1 hour travel time.
