AIR TRAVEL There are several daily scheduled flights into and out of Glasgow International Airport from major British and European cities, as well as from other airports in Asia, Africa, Australia and the US. Edinburgh Airport is just an hour’s drive away and also offers a wide choice of flights. Which Airline? Fly into Glasgow International Airport with a wide range of airlines, including British Airways and Scotland’s own no-frills airline, Flyglobespan, which has many flights between Glasgow and Europe. The low-cost airline Ryanair operates flights from Prestwick International Airport, which is around 30 miles from the City Centre. Many airlines fly into Edinburgh Airport. Getting into Glasgow from the Airports Glasgow International Airport is 10 miles from the City Centre and is 15 – 20 minutes drive. Prestwick
International Airport is around 30 miles from the City Centre and
has its own train station with trains running to Glasgow Central Station
every half hour and taking approximately 45 minutes (all passengers
travelling to and from the airport will receive a 50% discount on the
standard fare). You can also travel by bus on the X77 service which
operates every 30 minutes and takes approximately 50 minutes. Edinburgh Airport is around 40 miles from the City Centre and is approximately 50 minutes drive to the City Centre. They provide a non-stop shuttle bus to Glasgow City Centre (Citylink Air (Glasgow)) that operates 7 days a week every 30 minutes at peak times with a journey time of 60 minutes leaving from Stance 1 – cost £11 single fare and £18 return. http://www.edinburghairport.com. |

TRAIN OR COACH There are regular links into Glasgow by train and coach. The city has two mainline rail stations – trains from the south arrive at Glasgow Central Station; Queen Street serves the north and east of Scotland. Buchanan Street is the major bus and coach station. Train – There are direct GNER rail links from Edinburgh Waverley and London King’s Cross to Glasgow Central Station. From London Euston station, Virgin Trains and the First Scotrail Caledonian Sleeper travel direct to Glasgow. The direct journey from London to Glasgow takes around 4–5 hours. Coaches – National Express coaches travel between London and Glasgow’s Buchanan Street Bus Station seven times a day. The average journey time is between 8.5 and 10 hours, dependant on traffic conditions.
