External access to GERAD

Warning: The portal ssh.cirrelt.ca is only used for external connection to the CIRRELT.

1- Start by connecting to the server ssh.gerad.ca

ssh -X usager@ssh.gerad.ca

2- Make a second ssh connection to your machine in GERAD.

The option -X forwards X11 traffic which allows you to use graphical applications on the remote server. Note that for MacOSX users you need to install an X11 such as the package XQuartz.

If you are using Windows, you first need to install a software. For example, MobaXterm which is available at the following address:

ATTENTION: DON'T START CALCULATION ON THE FRONTAL MACHINE ssh.gerad.ca

ssh connection with ssh keys for Linux, Mac OSX and Windows mobaxterm

Open a terminal window and follow this steps:

  • In you laptop or desktop generate ssh key :
ssh-keygen.exe -b 4096

(When you see: Enter passphrase: create a password)

  • You now have to copy the ssh-key to your account in GERAD:
ssh-copy-id nom_uager@ssh.gerad.ca
  • connect to your account when prompt enter your ssh key password
ssh -X usager@ssh.gerad.ca

ssh connection with ssh keys for Windows powershell

Open powershell and follow this steps:

  • In you laptop or desktop generate ssh key :
ssh-keygen.exe -b 4096

(When you see: Enter passphrase: create a password)

  • You now have to copy the ssh-key to your account in GERAD:
cat ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub | ssh usager@ssh.gerad.ca "cat >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys" 
  • connect to your account when prompt enter your ssh key password
ssh -X usager@ssh.gerad.ca
